Provident Credit Union requires the following to close an account:
- Written request on your Service Center’s letterhead to close an account; signed and dated by all authorized signers on the account, and/or
- Approved meeting minutes authorizing the closing of all PCU accounts; signed and dated by all authorized signers on the account
- Clear and valid copy of ID of all authorized signers
To close your account, please ensure you have canceled any recurring debits or credits linked to your account and your outstanding transactions have cleared. Then do one of the following:
Closing a checking, savings, and/or credit card account*Visit a local community branch to speak with a personal banker or schedule a meeting with a PCU Branch Manager by submitting your written and signed request to Michael Moore, PCU Account Executive, at mmoore@providentcu.org
*For accounts with a Share Secured Credit Card on file, Provident Credit Union will authorize the release of secured funds once the following measures have been met: (1) balance is paid off in full and (2) the account is closed.
Sign in to Online Banking and select your account from the Accounts page. Your account number will be displayed on the Account Details page.
You can send funds from your Provident account to another financial institution using a wire transfer. Please complete and physically sign the wire request form, which includes the wire agreement (page 1) and all wire information and instructions (page 2).
- Any wire requests over $50K will have an exception granted. Service Centers can complete the form with the full balance in their accounts
- The $25 outgoing wire fee will be waived as a courtesy
- All authorized signers must provide a clear and valid copy of their ID
- Send a clear copy of all documents and IDs to Michael Moore, PCU Account Executive, at mmoore@providentcu.org. Once all documents have been received, Account Services will review the documents for completion and accuracy prior to processing
Provident Credit Union will need to contact all authorized signers on the phone numbers on file to complete verification before finalizing the wire transfer Branch Visits
We reserve the right to request the wire transfer be done at a branch location, if verification requirements are not met. Wires $50,000 or greater can be completed:
- In person at a Provident branch location
- Via a call with a PCU Branch Manager or Account Services Manager
If visiting a branch is not an option, a call can be coordinated with Account Services via Michael Moore, PCU Account Executive, at mmoore@providentcu.org. Any requests made without visiting a branch will require:
- Member verification by phone based on the phone number on file
- Answers to the account security questions on file
- Name, address, account number, etc. for the person it is going to
- A current copy of your state/government-issued picture I.D.
- U.S. bank name and address
- ABA bank routing number for U.S. bank
- Contact the receiving bank to see if they also have an intermediary bank ABA/Routing number that you need to include on the form

Wire transfer requests must be received by 1:00 pm PST to be processed the same day. If a wire transfer is requested after 1:00 pm PST, it will be processed the following business day.
