Member's College Scholarship Application
- Purpose of the Scholarship Program
Provident Credit Union's College Scholarship Award Program seeks to recognize and encourage young Provident members who are interested in pursuing college studies in fields of importance to the not-for profit cooperative credit union movement, i.e., financial services, business, accounting, marketing, communications, computer science, liberal arts, or other related fields.
- Eligibility
2026 graduating high school seniors are eligible to apply for this scholarship if they meet the following criteria:
- The student applicant must be a member of Provident Credit Union, with their own Credit Union account and their parent, grandparent or guardian must have been a fully engaged Provident member for the past five years.
- Cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or above.
- Planned enrollment in a university, college, or community college for the fall 2026 semester/quarter.
- College major in financial services, business, accounting, marketing, communications, computer science, liberal arts, or other related fields.
- Application Requirements
The scholarship application must be submitted online no later than March 31, 2026.
- The completed application.
- Certified, official transcript from your high school, reflecting a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above. Copies of transcripts are not acceptable.
- Certified, official transcripts must be mailed directly from the school, be postmarked no later than March 31, 2026, and sent to the attention of: Erica Valbusa, Provident Credit Union, 303 Twin Dolphin Drive, Redwood City, CA 94065
- Three letters of recommendation - from references in three different fields (for example, one teacher, one friend, one employer or past employer).
- Essay of 500 words or less on the following topic: "The role of Provident Credit Union in my family's life"
Finalists will be interviewed by the College Scholarship Committee in person at Provident's Redwood Shores headquarters, or by a video conference call if the finalist lives outside the San Francisco Bay Area.
- Amount of Award
The initial award for this scholarship is $5,000 for students who will be attending a four-year college or university and $2,000 for students who will be attending a community college. These funds will be deposited into the recipient's Provident savings account upon receipt of the following:

Correspondence from the college or university of attendance that includes their official stamp or is printed on their letterhead, which indicates the following:
- Your name
- Your declared Major (financial services, business, accounting, computer science, marketing, etc.).
- A list of your Registered Classes for the Fall Semester.
- Indication that you will continue to be a full-time student at the college or university.
This Scholarship may be renewed annually for up to four years or until college graduation, whichever comes first and upon meeting the following criteria and deadlines:
- Maintain a cumulative college grade point average of 3.0 or better.
- Maintain membership in Provident Credit Union.
- By July 31st of each scholarship year, submit a certified transcript of college grades for the previous two semesters or three quarters, whichever applies.
- By July 31st of each scholarship year, submit a letter of intent to renew your scholarship and to remain in the qualifying field of study.
- By September 30th of each scholarship year, submit to Provident correspondence from the college or university of attendance that includes their official stamp or is printed on their letterhead, which indicates the following:
- Your name
- Your declared Major (financial services, business, accounting, computer science, marketing, etc.).
- A list of your Registered Classes for the Fall Semester.
- Indication that you will continue to be a full-time student at the college or university.
The annual award for four-year college or university students is $5,000. For students attending a community college, the award is $2,000 for their second year and will revert to a $5,000 per year award after transfer to a four-year college or university for their third and fourth years. This scholarship does not provide an award for a third or fourth year at the community college level. This scholarship also does not provide for any gap years.

The recipient will be selected by Provident's College Scholarship Committee, consisting of the following representatives:
- Two or more members of Provident's Board of Directors
- One member of Provident's staff
