California Teaching Credential Scholarship Application


  1. Purpose of the Scholarship Program

    Provident Credit Union's Scholarship Program seeks to recognize and encourage Provident members who are interested in pursuing a teaching credential to teach in the Public Schools of California.

  2. Eligibility

    Any Provident member who holds a baccalaureate degree or is in his/her final undergraduate term may apply for this scholarship upon meeting the following criteria:

    1. The applicant must have been a fully engaged Provident Credit Union member for the past twelve months.
    2. Cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or above.
    3. Accepted in the education department of an accredited university or college for the coming year and enrolled prior to the disbursement of scholarship funds.
    4. A college major in a field commonly taught in the schools of California.
  3. Application Requirements

    The scholarship application must be submitted online no later than March 31, 2026.

    1. The completed application.
    2. Official transcript of undergraduate grades reflecting a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above.
    3. Certified, official transcripts must be mailed directly from the school, be postmarked no later than March 31, 2026, and sent to the attention of: Erica Valbusa, Provident Credit Union, 303 Twin Dolphin Drive, Redwood City, CA 94065
    4. Three letters of recommendation - from references in three different fields (for example, one teacher, one friend, one employer or past employer).
    5. Essay of 500 words or less on the following topic: "The role of Provident Credit Union in my family's life"

    Finalists will be interviewed by the College Scholarship Committee in person at Provident's Redwood Shores headquarters, or by a video conference call if the finalist lives outside the San Francisco Bay Area.

  4. Amount of Award

    An award of up to $5,000 will be granted to the scholarship recipient and award funds will be deposited into their Provident savings account upon verification of fulltime enrollment in a credential program.

  5. Selection Committee/Schedule

    The recipient will be selected by Provident's Scholarship Committee, consisting of the following representatives &ellipsis;

    • Two or more members of Provident's Board of Directors
    • One member of Provident's staff
  6. Application Deadline

    Completed applications must be submitted online by March 31, 2026.
