Advancing Literacy, Enriching Community:Provident Credit Union Volunteers with Oakland Literacy Coalition

At Provident Credit Union, our mission is to champion our members’ financial well-being and enrich the community through exceptional service. That mission goes beyond products and accounts; it’s about human connection, meaningful partnerships, and making a lasting impact. This month, we were honored to partner with the Oakland Literacy Coalition to further that mission in action.

Our team of volunteers helped organize 4 classroom libraries, distributed 250+ pencil cases assembled by our management team, and helped prepare materials for a new curriculum designed to encourage independent reading. By doing this hands-on work, we helped free up educators and librarians to focus more of their energy on teaching, mentoring, and engaging young readers while we rolled up our sleeves and worked behind the scenes.

Why this matters:

• When students see books arranged with care and find themselves drawn to pick one up, we help build a positive reading habit.
